Personal Interests and Background

Originally from Moline, IL, Dr. Castro was drawn to dentistry for its balance between healthcare and personal connection. If not a dentist, he imagines he’d have pursued a business degree, gone to culinary school, and opened a restaurant. During the pandemic, he picked up smoking meats as a hobby and now enjoys spending a day perfecting brisket or ribs. Outside the office, Dr. Castro can often be found biking long distances, exploring new restaurants, or spending time with his wife.

Some fun facts

What made you want to become a dentist?

I wanted a career in the healthcare field, but also one that allowed for a better work-life balance. Seeing the difference in lifestyle between my parents—both physicians—and my family dentist helped me realize that dentistry offered the best of both worlds: the chance to care for patients while still having time for life outside of work.

If you weren’t a dentist, what career would you have pursued?

I would have gotten a business degree, gone to culinary school, and tried to open a restaurant. Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and I love the creativity and connection that come with sharing food.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

I picked up smoking meat as a hobby during the pandemic. There’s something relaxing about spending a day perfecting brisket, ribs, or pulled pork. It’s become one of my favorite weekend traditions.

Helping people feel confident in their smiles while making dentistry more accessible is what drives me every day.
